Situated 100 km east of Hanoi on the Cua Cam River, Hai Phong is the principal port city in the North of Vietnam. With its crescent-shaped nineteenth-century core, old Hai Phong is surprisingly well preserved and can be an attractive stop over on the way to Halong Bay by boat via Cat Ba Island. Moreover many say that the best egg rolls in the world can be found on the streets of Hai Phong.
The most famous destination in Hai Phong for travellers is Cat Ba Island. This is the largest island in Halong Bay which is half covered by the Cat Ba National Park. People can visit Cat Ba easily while cruising overnight at Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay on the private tours in Vietnam. In summer time from May to September, tourist can enjoy relaxing time at the beautiful beaches in Cat Ba Island. Other activites to do when visiting the island are: Hiking through the national park; Kayaking and exploring local life at Viet Hai Fishing Village and Rock Climbing.
